Matthew Crow

Growing up a surfer on the West Coast, Matthew always had a love for the water. He joined the US Coast Guard in 1996. During that time he worked all over the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans as well as the Caribbean.

In 2007, while stationed as a helicopter rescue swimmer in San Francisco, Matthew befriended the renowned tattooer Henry Goldfield at the Cow Palace Tattoo Convention. This serendipitous meeting reignited the love and reverence Matthew always had for his grandfather’s tattoos, who was also in the Coast Guard and was heavily tattooed by the renowned Sailor Jerry himself. Shortly there after, Matthew found himself going through a somewhat traditional tattoo apprenticeship at Goldfield’s Tattoo in addition to being in the Coast Guard full time. Cutting his teeth on sailors and soldiers all across the country, his goal was always to retire from the Coast Guard and one day open his own shop. Here we are.

Tattooing isn’t just about the artwork for Matthew, it’s also about the human experience. When you get tattooed by Matt, you leave with a new friend and a tattoo you can be proud of that will stand the test of time.

Matthew’s a family man and when he’s not tattooing, he and his family spend most of their time on the go. Whether it be biking, snowboarding, surfing or practicing jiu jitsu, his family is ready for wherever the action takes them. They have roots in California, Washington, Oregon and Montana, so whether it be the ocean or the mountains, the Crows are down!
